Steam Drum in Gasifier Plant |
While many people know the basics of coal gasification, many of us have little knowledge about how a gasification power plant works. If you are reading this post, then I'm sure you will find a bit to enhance your know-how.
As the term gasification plant suggests, gasifier is the most important equipment in this case. It converts hydrocarbon feedstock into gaseous components in presence of steam. The conversion takes place by application of heat under high pressure and amount of air/oxygen inside the equipment is controlled carefully so that minimal portion of fuel burns completely. Here partial oxidation takes place and the carbon containing feed material is chemically broken down to produce 'SYNGAS'
Please note that 'Syngas' is composed of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and few other gaseous constituents. The composition of Syngas may vary depending upon the condition of gasifier and the type of feedstock.
The Syngas produced is cleaned of its hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and particulate matter and is burned as fuel in a combustion turbine. Exhaust heat from the combustion turbine is used to boil water, create steam for steam turbine generator and other industrial applications.
