Coal tar is a viscous liquid mixture of hydrocarbon compounds which are dangerous for environment, wildlife and people. It is a complex mixture of many organic compounds like benzene, toluene, phenol, napthalene, anthracene etc which has chronic effects on kidneys, heart, lungs, nervous system, skin and so on. Besides, it is also hazardous for organisms that live in waterways and plants as well.

CASE Pyrolysis coal gasifier is environmentally sound because generation of tar is avoided due to maintaining the high temperature inside the gasifier. Due to this the volatile matter is in gaseous state and is burnt inside the furnace which also gives extra calorific energy to the gas.
